SCOTT G. CLAYTON

March 25, 1960 – April 4, 2021

The Walking Mustang Encyclopedia. Our Crew Chief. And the Best Dad.

He will always be loved and in our hearts.

This platform wasn't just built with code — it was built on a lifetime of grease, horsepower, and unmatched automotive wisdom passed down from my dad, Scott G. Clayton.

A programmed Mustang computer

Dad didn't just love Mustangs; he lived, slept, and dreamed them. He was a walking Ford encyclopedia. You could throw a random part into a pile, and he'd tell you exactly what year it belonged to. From Generation 1 to Generation 5, factory models to the rarest Shelby, Boss, or Twister Special packages, his brain was a programmed Mustang computer. If you had a question about a spec, he had the answer instantly.

Iron that passed through his garage

His garage saw an unbelievable lineup of iron: from a pair of '69 Mach 1s, a '70 Fastback, and an '88, to a souped-up '84 that he proudly handed down to me as a high school graduation present. He bought my brother a Mustang, painted a custom Barbie-pink one for his daughter, and stood right beside me helping to restore a '64 and working on a '95.

Driven by time, bound by horsepower

Dad was a master mechanic and a true racer. I'll never forget our days running dirt-track "mad man cruisers" — where he'd drive and I'd operate the relocated passenger-side gas pedal (or vice versa), tearing up the track together. Some weeks, we were racing three days a week. Even while working grueling 12-hour shifts, no matter how tired or busy he was, he always made time for us kids. Every single weekend, if there was a car show or a swap meet within a 100-mile radius of Quincy, our family was there.

He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan, an active face at the Rocky Point Club and South Side Boat Club, and a guy who enjoyed darts, trap shooting, and going everywhere with his pitbull best friend, Boss. But above all, he was the backbone of our family and the ultimate mentor.

Why these calculators exist

I built these calculators in loving memory of my dad. Every line of code and every mechanical calculation on this site is fueled by the incredible automotive knowledge, dedication, and work ethic he passed down to me.

Dad, this one is for you. Spin 'em fast and keep the tires smoking on the other side.

— In loving memory, always

Explore the tools he inspired

Scott's knowledge spanned every Mustang generation — from first-gen lacquer codes to modern Coyote math. Use the calculators and reference guides below the way he would have: measure twice, verify on the car, and never guess a spec.
