Factory paint code chart by model year
S650 renumbered some staples — Shadow Black is G1, not UA from the S550 chart. Blue Ember (E1) is Dark Horse exclusive in our data. Cross-reference model year: 2025 added Molten Magenta tri-coat and Wimbledon White to the palette.

Where to find Generation 7 Mustang paint codes
Exterior color on a 2024–2026 S650 fastback and convertible is documented separately from interior trim codes. Check these locations before ordering paint:
- Driver door jamb certification label — two-letter exterior paint code (G1 = Shadow Black, YZ = Oxford White, E1 = Blue Ember on Dark Horse, etc.).
- Liftgate or trunk gutter — overspray reference when outer panels were repainted but jambs were masked at a body shop.
- Front splitter and rocker extensions — gloss black aero is often separate from body color; confirm base code on metal doors before matching.
- Window sticker or Ford order summary — early S650 special colors may need build PDF when the door tag is unreadable after repair.
Official Ford guidance for modern vehicles also applies to decoding labels: see Ford's paint code help page for label reading tips.
How many colors were available?
Launch colors emphasize blues and grays — Grabber Blue Metallic returns, Vapor Blue joins the roster, and Yellow Splash tri-coat headlines 2024. Dark Horse buyers get Blue Ember, a color-shifting exclusive not listed on base GT charts. Our table tracks each model year separately as Ford adds limited colors like Molten Magenta for 2025–2026.
Factory paint specifications
Original S650 (2024–2026) finishes differ from modern base/clear systems. Use this outline when briefing a body shop or judging an original car.
| Factory system | Basecoat/clearcoat with tinted clears on Rapid Red and tri-coat mid-coats on Yellow Splash and Molten Magenta. |
|---|---|
| Primary refinish brands | Ford OEM, PPG, Axalta — S650 formulas are model-year specific in dealer refinish systems. |
| Finish type | Metallics and tri-coats dominate; Blue Ember uses color-shifting pearl — panel replacement often beats blend repair. |
| Typical mixing (shop) | BC/CC per Ford formula ID; tri-coats require mid-coat layer and controlled gun distance for S650 character lines. |
| Colorants / dyes | Carbonized Gray and Dark Matter Gray are close in photos — use door tag code, not online swatches alone. |
| Factory film build | About 5–10 mils BC/CC; sharp S650 creases on rear quarters show sand-through quickly if build is too heavy. |
| Modern equivalent | PPG and Axalta list S650 codes — supply VIN and model year; Dark Horse and GT share most colors but not all exclusives. |
Recommended total paint thickness
| S650 factory BC/CC | About 5–10 mils on flat door — avoid sharp rear-quarter creases when blocking |
|---|---|
| Tri-coat hero colors | Yellow Splash and Molten Magenta stack thicker; plan full panel respray over spot repair when possible |
| Blue Ember Dark Horse | Color-shift pearl — blend repairs are visible from multiple angles; document if replacing panels |
| Measurement method | Calibrated gauge on door skin; matte black aero and PPF-covered panels read differently |
Surface prep tips for Generation 7 resprays
Document ADAS and front-camera calibration after clip work
S650 front structures house sensors behind fascia pieces. Paint shop reassembly should note if radar or camera brackets were removed — Ford calibrations may be required post-repair.
Separate gloss black aero from body-color panels
Splitters, wing uprights, and mirror caps are often gloss black regardless of body code. Quote body color from door tag metal panels only.
What did a factory paint job cost then vs today?
Dealer and factory pricing is inflation-adjusted below for planning — not a quote from any specific shop.
| 2024 optional tri-coat paint | About $425–$650 above base GT MSRP for Yellow Splash and similar. |
|---|---|
| 2024 Dark Horse Blue Ember | Exclusive color bundled with Dark Horse trim — verify E1 on door tag, not GT chart alone. |
| 2025 dealer refinish estimate | About $2,000–$3,200 full BC/CC (2025 collision labor rates). |
| Daily-driver S650 respray (2025) | $9,000–$14,500 — includes aero R&R and ADAS sensor awareness on newer front clips. |
| Dark Horse show build (2025) | $22,000–$38,000 — correct jamb, trunk, and bay with Blue Ember or tri-coat documentation. |
| Tri-coat panel repair (2025) | $1,500–$5,000+ per panel — Molten Magenta and Yellow Splash need booth time, not mobile touch-up. |

Frequently asked questions
Where is the paint code on a 2024–2026 Mustang?
Driver door jamb certification label. Look for the two-letter exterior paint code — G1 for Shadow Black on S650, not UA from older generations.
What code is Dark Horse Blue Ember?
Blue Ember Metallic uses code E1 in our Dark Horse model-year entries — exclusive to that trim in our database. Base GT charts for the same year may not list it.
Is Grabber Blue the same as S550 Grabber Lime?
No. S650 Grabber Blue Metallic uses its own code (AE in our tables) on a different platform and formula from S550 Grabber Lime or classic Grabber colors.
When did Molten Magenta join the palette?
Molten Magenta Metallic Tri-Coat appears in our 2025 and 2026 tables — not 2024 launch colors. Always use the model year section above.
Does Oxford White still use YZ?
Yes on S650 in our data — YZ Oxford White carries from S550, but always confirm with your door tag because marketing names can diverge from refinish bulletins.
